Received MD and DDS degrees at the University of Rome, Tor Vergata. Received a perio training and a MS in Oral Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1989 to 1992.

At present time, he is Full Professor and Chair of Periodontology Section of Periodontics School of Dentistry, Professor of Periodontology School of Dental Hygiene and Director of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontics at the University of Rome “Sapienza”. Adjunct Associate part-time Faculty at the Ohio State University Section of Periodontics.

He serves the Italian Society of Periodontology as an active member and Member of the Scientific Committee. Active Member of the Wound Healing Society and of the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. Involved in basic and clinical research on the use of hyaluronan (aka hyaluronic acid) since 1989. Author of articles in peer-reviewed journals and of one book on GTR. Private practice is limited to Periodontics in Rome, Italy. He is Board Certified in Periodontology by the Italian Society of Periodontology.

  • Initial Situation: PPD of 10 mm.
  • Situation after flap preparation and thorough degranulation of defect.
  • Defect filled with a mixture of xHyA and a bone filler.
  • Situation 72h post-OP shows accelerated healing.
  • After 8 years: Significant reduction of probing depth to 2–3 mm
